Where's the Beef?

In conjunction with the largest gathering of the nation’s cattlemen and women for their annual meeting in Denver, Greeley-based JBS USA and farmers and ranchers from around the country donated 16,000 pounds of beef today to Colorado’s Feeding America Food Banks. This is the largest single donation of beef Food Bank of the Rockies and our sister food banks have ever received!

Kevin Seggelke, FBR’s President and CEO kicked off the press conference. Steve Williams from JBS USA, Jim Baldwin, CEO of Feeding Colorado and Kansas Rancher, Debbie Lyons-Blythe all spoke about this wonderful donation and the tremendous need in our community. “Compared to 50 years ago, there are half as many farmers and ranchers today feeding a United States population that has more than doubled,” said Debbie. “Our population will only continue to grow, so farmers and ranchers like me remain committed to feeding a growing population, by providing an affordable supply of high-quality, nutritious beef so that all Americans can have enough food for a healthy, active lifestyle.”

Afterwards, the group gathered at FBR’s loading dock to help unload the first pallet off the truck.

The donation will be shared between the five Feeding Colorado food banks and distributed to soup kitchens, shelters and pantries in each food bank’s service area throughout the state.
