All Things Sakic

It's a good weekend when we can report nearly one million meals raised over the course of 2 days.  That was the case after this year's Joe Sakic Celebrity Classic and the Joe & Debbie Sakic Bringing Hope to the Table Celebration, sponsored by CoBank and RBC Wealth Management.

On August 25 and 26, sponsors and friends joined together for a picture perfect day of golf at the renowned Sanctuary Golf Course and celebrated the following evening with fabulous food, a fantastic auction and comedy by Bob Marley at the Marriott Denver Tech Center.  This is the 14th year the Sakics have dedicated themselves to fighting childhood hunger in Colorado.  With the addition of nearly one million meals provided, this duo has helped raise a total of over 15 million meals for Colorado kids in need.  Simply outstanding.

Goose Gossage graced us with his participation again this year!

The Fray's, Joe King golfed with Altitude's Kyle Keefe and Marc Moser and Opie Gone Bad's Jake Schroeder.

Jake Schroeder and Randy Dalton of the Railbenders provided one-of-a-kind entertainment during dinner.

Bob Marley showcased side splitting comedy following dinner.

The event committee goes to bat, year after year, to make the events successful.  Job well done crew!

THANK YOU to the Sakics, CoBank, RBC Wealth Management and all our generous sponsors and participants.  FBR and all the kiddos we serve appreciate you more than words can begin to express.

Ameristar, Going Above and Beyond

Ameristar Casino Resort Spa Black Hawk recently kicked off their sponsorship of Food Bank of the Rockies’ Senior Totes of Hope™ Program!  Ameristar is now the sole sponsor of this program providing totes of nutritious food, such as fruits, vegetable, low-fat dairy products and whole grain breads, to 570 low income seniors each month.

On Wednesday, Sept 7th, Ameristar staff arrived at FBR to spend time packing totes that they later hand delivered to Seniors at Westgate Towers, one of the sites receiving the Totes of Hope.  This program is designed to provide food items that seniors typically don't receive or can not afford.  This would not be possible without the support of Ameristar, which will donate $10,000 each year to support this program. Over the course of the past three years, Ameristar has donated $25,375 to FBR, which is equivalent to approximately 101,500 meals.

“Helping local senior adults is a focus for us at Ameristar,” said Andy Hamblen, Senior Vice President and General Manager. “It is truly an honor to fully fund the program and help so many people who need it the most.”

THANKS to Ameristar for their dedication to fighting hunger and feeding hope for a population that is so often overlooked.  Their efforts will go a very long way for 570 Seniors who so desperately need food assistance.

It's HAM Time!

Can't believe it's September already!  We heart September here at FBR as it marks the beginning of Hunger Action Month, a nationally and locally recognized month of hunger awareness.  We've been gearing up over here for offering our food bank family ways to help spread the word and raise funds to support ONE out of SEVEN Coloradans who don't know where their next meal is coming from.

Are you a fan of our Facebook page?  Do you follow us on Twitter?  Visit our home page for links to both social media sites so you can stay in touch, chat with us and offer up your own ideas on how to fight hunger and feed hope.

We'll post a series of "30 Ways in 30 Days" throughout the month, offering up easy ways to get involved during HAM.  Stay tuned!
